"Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse: A Chesapeake Bay Icon" The iconic Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse was built near the center of the Chesapeake Bay, just south of Annapolis, in 1875 and continues to guide mariners. It is the only screw-pile lighthouse in the bay at its original site. Annapolis sailor David Gendell, author of the first and only book devoted to the lighthouse, presents the story of the lighthouse, including the rise of commerce on the Chesapeake Bay, the design and building of the lighthouse, colorful stories of lighthouse keepers, and the present day effort to preserve and celebrate the historic lighthouse.
